Engineering & Design

6 roles
AI SystemsFull-time$185k - $235k

Senior AI Engineer

Own the design and delivery of production LLM systems, from retrieval and evaluation through to serving and cost control.

  • Five or more years building production software
  • Shipped at least one LLM system that real users depended on
  • Comfortable arguing about evaluation methodology
  • Writes clearly enough that a client can read the design document

San Francisco or remote (UTC-8 to UTC+2)

Data EngineeringFull-time$170k - $215k

Senior Data Engineer

Build ingestion and transformation layers that stay correct when the upstream system does not.

  • Deep experience with a modern warehouse and a transformation framework
  • Has run a backfill that mattered and lived to describe it
  • Treats data models as software, with tests and review
  • Opinions about late-arriving data, ideally strong ones

San Francisco or remote (UTC-8 to UTC+2)

Web & ProductFull-time$150k - $195k

Product Engineer

Build web products end to end, from the data layer to the last few pixels, with performance and accessibility as constraints rather than aspirations.

  • Strong TypeScript and React, ideally with Next.js
  • Cares about Core Web Vitals without being asked
  • Can build to a design system and improve it while doing so
  • Accessibility is part of the definition of done

San Francisco or remote (UTC-8 to UTC+2)

OperateFull-time$165k - $210k

Reliability Engineer

Keep the systems we operate running, and push what you learn on call back into how we design the next one.

  • Production on-call experience for a system you did not write
  • Fluent with observability tooling and incident practice
  • Automates the runbook entry the second time it is used
  • Calm in an incident, blunt in the review

San Francisco or remote (UTC-8 to UTC+2)

Rotating12 weeks, paid$9k / month

Engineering Internship

A rotating placement across AI, data and product engineering, paired with a senior engineer and shipping to production in week three.

  • Currently studying or recently graduated
  • Has built something that other people used
  • Asks the second question, not only the first

San Francisco

Web & ProductFull-time$120k - $165k

UI/UX Designer

Design the surface where intelligence becomes a decision someone can act on — working in the repository, not only in the design file.

  • A portfolio of shipped product work rather than concept pieces
  • Can own a design system and the tokens on the code side of it
  • Treats accessibility as a constraint, not a review step
  • Can show confidence and uncertainty in an interface instead of hiding them

San Francisco or remote (UTC-8 to UTC+2)

Talent & Hiring

2 roles
TalentFull-time$95k - $130k

Recruiter / Talent Acquisition Specialist

Own hiring end to end — sourcing, scheduling and candidate experience — for a process that pays for the work session and answers everybody within a week.

  • Has recruited engineers and can hold a technical conversation without a script
  • Sources actively rather than waiting on inbound applications
  • Writes to candidates like people, not like a funnel
  • Will chase a hiring manager who is sitting on feedback

San Francisco or remote (UTC-8 to UTC+2)

TalentPart-time, contract$150 / session

Technical Interviewer

Run the paid work sessions and technical deep-dives, and write the feedback that goes to every candidate whether or not they get an offer.

  • Senior engineering experience in AI, data or product work
  • Can assess someone without needing them to think the way you do
  • Writes feedback a rejected candidate can actually use
  • Available for two to five sessions a week

Remote (UTC-8 to UTC+2)

Operations

2 roles
OperationsFull-time$48k - $68k

Virtual Assistant, Operations

Keep the front of the business moving: proposal and bid submissions, the shared inbox, and interview scheduling across timezones.

  • Excellent written English — you will draft client-facing messages
  • Has run a shared inbox where nothing was allowed to go unanswered
  • Comfortable with bid deadlines and the administration around them
  • Four hours of daily overlap with US Pacific

Remote (any timezone with 4h overlap with US Pacific)

OperationsFull-time$58k - $78k

Global Assistant, International Operations

Support the operations that have to be handled inside the US — contracting, vendor and banking paperwork, client onboarding and travel.

  • Authorised to work in the United States; this role cannot be filled elsewhere
  • Has handled contracts, invoices and vendor onboarding
  • Discreet with commercial and personal data
  • Willing to be the person who owns the paperwork nobody enjoys

United States only (remote)

Growth

2 roles
GrowthFull-time$85k - $120k

Marketing & Lead Generation Specialist

Build the top of the funnel for a studio that will not publish a number it cannot substantiate.

  • Has generated qualified B2B pipeline, not just traffic
  • Can write about technical work without inventing claims
  • Runs outbound and content as one system, measured on meetings booked
  • Comfortable being told a metric is not defensible enough to publish

San Francisco or remote (UTC-8 to UTC+2)

GrowthFull-time$115k - $155k + commission

Partnership Manager

Own the relationships that bring work to us — cloud and platform partners, agencies we co-deliver with, and the referral network.

  • Has built partner channels that produced revenue, with the numbers
  • Technical enough to scope an opportunity before an engineer joins the call
  • Understands co-delivery and the places it goes wrong
  • Will turn down a partnership that would misrepresent what we do

San Francisco or remote (UTC-8 to UTC+2)

Hiring

Four steps, under two weeks

We pay for the work session because asking for unpaid labour from someone who already has a job is not a fair trade. Every role goes through the same four steps.

01

A 30-minute conversation

With someone you would actually work with. No recruiter screen, no take-home before we have spoken.

02

A paid work session

Four hours, paid at contractor rate, on a problem close to real work. You keep whatever you build.

03

A deep-dive on your craft

Ninety minutes on something you have done before. We ask about the decisions and the parts that went wrong.

04

A decision within a week

Offer or not, with written feedback either way. We have never taken longer and do not intend to start.

What we offer

The terms, stated plainly

Four-day fortnight for learning

Every second Friday is yours for study, open source or a side project. It is not a euphemism for catching up on tickets.

Genuinely flexible remote

Two anchor hours of overlap, otherwise work when you work best. Half the team has never been to the office in a given month.

On-call that is compensated

Rotation is one week in six, paid on top of salary, and the person on call sets the following sprint's reliability work.

Conference and training budget

Five thousand a year, no approval process, and the only condition is that you write up what you learned for the rest of us.

Equipment you choose

Any machine, any peripherals, replaced on a three-year cycle or whenever it genuinely stops being enough.

Transparent salary bands

Published internally and in every job posting. Bands are reviewed annually against market, and nobody negotiates their way above them.

Nothing here fits, but you think we should talk?

We keep a short list of people we would hire the moment a role opens. Tell us what you build and what you want to be doing in two years.
